The Theater is in Town: Upcoming Local Performances

By Aiden Montgomery

Here in Prescott we have an amazing outlet for all different arts whether it be musical, physical, or theatrical. In this article I’m going to be giving you the scoop on some of the theatrical happenings here in Prescott and Prescott Valley.

The Prescott Center for the Arts. The PCA is located in Downtown Prescott on Marina Street in the old brick building that looks like a church. The PCA offers many great programs for not only theatrics such as their music programs and art gallery which features art from the community that has a different theme each month. Theatre wise they put on many great Shows such as Young Frankenstein which has one more weekend of showings. (See PCA site below for more details.).  In addition hitting the mainstage soon is Ghost Talk: Where Arizona Legends Come Alive! This Halloween themed show will introduce to the many ghostly ghouls Arizona is home to. Showings are on the 23 and 24. (See PCA site for times). The PCA is a volunteer program that welcomes anyone wanting to get involved or audition.

Park Avenue Theater. Park Avenue is an amazing Musical Theatre program that will definitely help you if you are wanting to further your Theatrical/Musical skills. Park Avenue is located on (insert location here). Currently they are working on a Broadway Show Choir consisting of both talented teens and a younger set of kids. The Show Choir will perform at Acker Night and The Prescott POPS Music Festival at Yavapai College. They will also be holding auditions for the musical Annie December 16-17. I highly encourage you to visit there Facebook page to get more details.

Show Time Community Theater. Show Time is laid back theatre group led by the very talented Director/ Choreographer Clinton Slay. Showtime is at the current moment trying to put together a show, but at the current time it’s undecided when. This is a great choice for a theatre group if you are just starting out acting.

Yavapai College. Yavapai offers many great educational classes and theatrical programs. At the current time they are putting on The Secret Garden which will premier October 22-25. Yavapai College is a very professional program which puts on amazing shows such as last year’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I highly encourage looking into Yavapai College’s theatre program if you are an experienced actor who wants to work with other very talented actors.

I realize that there are some theatre groups that I have not mentioned in this article. This purely because I do not know a lot about them. I encourage you though to find whatever theatre group you like the most and to also try and be involved in more than one. I’m involved with all the ones in the list above. I hope that you will soon take an interest in the world of theatrics.
