The TCP Mountain Biking Team kicked off its racing season with a strong showing at the first NICA (National Interscholastic Cycling Association) race on September 10th at Fort Tuthill in Flagstaff.
Over 400 Arizona racers vied for the top spots in four divisions. The racers representing TCP were senior Eric Anderson, juniors Toby Merz, Kim Delgado, Clayton Evans, and Max Baker, sophomores Kevin Anderson, Ethan Krafft, and Hudson Coggins, and freshman James Nebrig. Coaches leading this team in Flagstaff were Coach Jonathan Krafft, Coach Ed Marman, Mike Anderson and Lorrie Nebrig.
Our own Kevin Anderson (pictured) placed 4th and Ethan Krafft placed 7th in the Sophomore Division.
NICA holds five progressively harder races each fall, with two weeks separating each race. The next race will be held right here in Prescott on Sunday, September 25th at the White Spar Campground off of Highway 89. Following the Prescott race, the team will be travelling to Fort Huachuca in Sierra Vista, McDowell State Park in Phoenix, and the final race will be held at White Tank Mountain Regional Park in Phoenix. All students, parents, and the general public are invited to share in the excitement of the NICA series races.
The TCP Mountain Biking team would like to thank their generous sponsors, without whom they would be unable to compete. This year’s sponsors include: High Gear Bike Shop, Patterson Orthodontics, Horizon Dental, Watters Garden Center, Yavapai Pediatrics, Better Deal Printing and Prescott Import Car Service.
